This flyer is for students who are NOT ready to play in NETS

Who is this flyer for?  This flyer is for students age 7 through 9th grade that are not ready to play in NET tournaments and have not been recommended by one of our instructors to join the NETS or HotShots program. This is the Rookies program.

Who can join NETS or HotShots?  NETS and HotShots are for students who play tournaments and want to compete. Our instructors observe all students’ progress and advise a student when they feel the student has progressed to the point where the NETS program would be appropriate for their ability. Students cannot just register for NETS because “they have been around a long time”. The student must be able to demonstrate appropriate skills.

We recommend that you practice outside of class time (like you would do if you were taking piano lessons) to improve your skills so that you can progress to the NETS program.

What are students taught?  Students are taught the basics of tennis with the end goal that they will be able to progress to the NETS program, play in tournaments and on a high school team and play recreationally as adults.

Most students will use low compression balls, smaller racquets, smaller courts and shorter nets. This helps students learn more quickly and they can start playing sooner. Students will be grouped by age and ability.

What about discounts and refunds? There is a 10% discount for each additional sibling in your family.

Email us at mesatennis@gmail.com and we will credit your charge card. See section below about “Early Registration Discounts”.

There are NO REFUNDS or credits toward future sessions for tennis classes other than for medical emergencies and relocation. Refunds are not offered for any other reason.

How about equipment?  We have a limited supply of tennis racquets that students can use during class at their first series of lessons and we also sell inexpensive racquets. Students are expected to have their own racquet at their second series of classes. Students should wear tennis shoes and bring some bottled water.

Where are classes held?  Classes are held at Gene Autry Tennis Center, 4125 E. McKellips Rd. in Mesa. The facility is owned by the City of Mesa and managed by East Valley Tennis, LLC (Tom Kenney, Manager). Go to office and staff will direct students.

What is expected of students?  Students are expected to behave as they would in a classroom environment. They are expected to put forth their best effort and to treat other students and instructors with respect. Disruptive students will be asked to sit and observe the class for a period and then given another chance to participate with improved behavior. Parents will be contacted about behavior problems and if the problem persists, the student will be removed from the session with no refunds.

What about rain and make-ups?  If the weather is questionable, call facility to see if classes have been canceled. It may be raining at your house and dry at the facility. Contact your instructor about rain make-ups.

How and when do I register?  All registration for Rookies lessons is done online. Go to MesaTennis.com and click on the “Rookies Lessons” tab at the top. Registration is continuous starting Aug. 2. Please include the student’s name in the “Special Instructions” section of the registration form. Register early and get $10 discount (see below).
